Hey folks

I'm helping one of my French clients find frequent instant messenger users, to take their survey... It takes 15 minutes and there's a pretty good chance you'll win an iPod (they're giving away 10, and I expect less then 200 respondents, so go figure...)

So if you're a regular instant messenger user, take it and register to win here:
http://imsurvey.notlong.com

ALSO- please spread the word to any frequent IM users you know.

Thanks

Sean

PS- They're not selling anything, and they won't spam you, advertise to you or share your contact information with anyone else. This is early research to drive their product development ideas.

You can help with my research!

Folks:

As you may know, this summer I'm working at Intel Research Seattle, exploring ways that online relationships, such as those based on LiveJournal, can move into the offline (“real”) world -- and learning what online services can add to face-to-face conversation. The project will be open to anyone, but we think Seattle-area LiveJournal people can especially benefit from what we're building.

An important part of our research is to learn how people here interact and use wi-fi (wireless Internet) in public and semi-public places, so we've put together a short survey that addresses these issues. If you live in or near Seattle and use wi-fi (wireless Internet access), you can help us immensely by taking a few minutes to answer this brief survey. Your responses will be kept completely anonymous:
http://ljsurvey.notlong.com

At the end of the survey, you'll be told how to get more involved if you're interested in helping to test out the tools that we build this summer.

We're trying to get as many responses as we can, so if you think this is interesting it would be great if you could spread the word by linking to this posting in your own journal. Here's the link to this post:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/disrupsean/3566.html

Also, please spread the word to any non-LiveJournal friends who use wi-fi around Seattle too. Send them to the survey here: http://ljsurvey.notlong.com

Thanks!

Sean

And it's huge. So for now I'll stick with that chemical wrinkle-remover spray that will probably make my children mutants. But give it a few market cycles and the Dressman might be ready for prime time.

More details at The New Scientist.

A quick bit of background: I'm a grad student from Berkeley who just moved to Seattle for a summer internship with Intel Research Seattle, where I'll work with Joe McCarthy to design and develop the Blogger Bridges project.

I'm fascinated by the possibilites of creating location-aware software that runs on people's mobile phones, PDAs and other devices to augment face-to-face social interactions. For an example of this sort of thing, see http://www.seansavage.com/encounter-bubbles.

At Intel I'm looking at Seattle LiveJournal users in particular, trying to figure out how we can bring together people's online interactions and self-presentations with face-to-face social interaction.

I'm originally from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and I lived in Austin, Texas for awhile. For the past eight years I've lived in and around San Francisco. I was a tech journalist for daily newspapers for a couple of years, and I've spent many years helping to develop Web sites and software as a user interface designer.

For more fun see my main Web blog, cheesebikini.
